If you suspect your child has head lice, Children’s Health Center recommends you call the clinic on (830)693-3988, or request for an appointment online.
If your child has lice, Bactrim or Septra will be prescribed by your pediatrician. Use the Bactrim or Septra as prescribed: two times per day for 3 days. Stop the medicine for 7 days and then restart for another 3 days.
Also use 100% Mayonnaise (NOT fat free) to cover the hair overnight every time a live lice is found. Use a lot of Mayo and then cover the hair with a shower cap to keep mayo off the bedding.
In the morning, wash the hair with Dawn dish detergent and rinse with 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water. Then pick all the nits out of the hair.
Wash all bedding, towels, clothes, hats, hair bows, scrunchies, and elastics in hot water. Then dry in a hot dryer.
Vacuum chairs, sofas, and beds.
Boil brushes and combs.
Anything that cannot be cleaned by the above methods needs to be dry cleaned or stored in a plastic bag for 2 weeks.
